Welcome!

Growing up, I went through phases where I wanted to be an astronaut, bus driver, accountant, nun, and security guard. I ended up as none of these. I did eventually find a professional path forward, but that isn't my interest here. I'm an amateur theologian. I read and think and talk about what we might mean when they use the word "God," and then I write about it here. What do you think? I'd love to know!

Something More? Things Real?

I'm a big fan of paleontologist, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, who believed that that the universe is evolving towards an ultimate point of union with God, which he called the "Omega Point." This evolution encompasses all of creation, not just the external changes we see in species over time but also the internal development of thought and self-awareness. He believed that humans have a crucial role to play in this cosmic process.

It was Teilhard who wrote, "It is the destiny of things real to destroy those that are artifice.” Established science has made the ancient understanding of God that's been enshrined in our creeds and rituals seem nonsensible when taken literally. We need a new way of conceiving of, talking about, and believing in the "something more" that is present in life but beyond our sensory experience. And once we find it, we need of grappling with "things real" in our everyday lives today that makes sense. I hope this site can contribute a little something toward that end.
